No clubs in the places I fly, it is all unofficial, but yet very civilised, everyone waits their turn to takeoff, land, with most people announcing their intentions to let the others flying know in advance.

Just turn up and fly as you wish (weather pending).

Modern radios use 2.4Ghz, so no need to worry about frequencies anymore, you can have 100 planes in the air at the same time, no interference.

We don't fly over people, houses or any populated area, so crash damage is limited to foam snow one creates.

Foam EDFs (Electric Ducted Fans) - HKD$1000-3000

Composite turbine jets - HKD$10000-50000+ easy.

I prefer electric stuff these days, less mess, smell and noise.

Yes winds are a big factor for light foam planes. I generally check the wind prediction the night before then again first thing in the morning, Then charge batteries and go!

Each of the locations has different wind traits. Depending on your skill level and model size you can choose which site suits the wind.

I just had a quick look at the retail RC shops in Mongkok and Yau Ma Tei. Nothing really exciting beyond plastic kits or prebuilt die cast model cars.
