8-track had those annoying seams where music would fade out and back in. Mini-disc's fidelity could hold its own today.

8 track was acceptable in the late 70s and has a strange niche attraction to it mostly from USA, as it's before my time ( only purchased vinyl as part of limited collection in 2007), presumable it's comparable to cassette but apparantly you can hear the other side.

minidisc was popular ( i had a few, even still own one in my parents place, mz-n10) but it's quality better than mp3 players at 128kbps, but from 160kbps mp3 onwards, mp3 is better), while it was never popular in europe or usa, but minidisc was quite popular in far east, from 2006 onwards, i upgraded to a sony NW-A1000 with 6GB, it was better than minidisc in convenience and quality, interesting aspect, u could use the mini disc lcd display in line remote on this sony mp3 player nw-a1000 and it has cool EL bank lighting as well.

but from 2009, i further upgraded to nwz-x1000 with 16gb, that was a nice mp3 player which sounds better than literally all phones (did a blind test with a friend in 2015 with mid range (HK$2000) earphones, full size headphones and 3 phones.

from 2016 onward, audiophile grade nw-zx100, you can't get much better in sound quality than that (onwards, the quality difference is very marginal)

just noted on the head fi forums, fiio m11 seriously decent value for money, HK$3888, supports 2.5mm, 3.5mm, 4.4mm, ldac, aptx hd, usb type c, 3gb ram, android, the only downer, average battery life, makes ipods and phones (except dp-cmx1) sounds like 70s cult hit 8 track in sound quality terms
