can anypne suggest a good place to find a rare battery.

Hi, i'm looking for a special built in battery and was shocked at the quotation for a replacement battery for a NW-A1000 ( perfer sony, less restiction on transfer of mp3, has full controll lcd in line remote,)as it's almost HK$500 ( HK$190 for the CT019 3.7v 650mah sony battery), HK$ 100 inspection plus a HK$200 installation, they also said that they will not allow separate purchase of the battery (actaully very easy to change), thus, i started to look for alternatives source for replacement, eg, ebay seller won't sell to domestic market eg, they are based in hk, but can't ship to hk, however, they won't allow me to contact them to buy directly, so therefore, i tried internet searches for this battery, contacted a few suppliers within shenzen and dongguan, they won't sell me unless i buy over 50 units, and finally i even tried a good battery place within sim city shopping centre within mong kok, they used to do this battery, but have ran out of stock as its an older model.

any suggest of other places where i can get this battery?

    many thanks

You could try Apliu St in Sham Shui Po -and not just the centre stall - there are quite a few specialist shops on the sides.
    Good hunting.

I think local eBay sellers will ship to HK, as long as you pay them for the right shipping fee. Message them directly, it will save you heaps of time looking for it in physical stores.

    MK1 Super Digital Mall

I remember seeing a battery shop at MK1 Super Digital Mall though with the economy the way it is now, I don't know if it has closed down.

Yau Ma Tei MTR exit B1, turn left it on the left hand side with an escalator going up to the 2nd floor where the shop is.

Introduction of MK1 - MK1 Super Digital Mall

I don't have any information about the specific battery you are after.

Get an ebay seller to send to a friend overseas, and have it shipped back to HK?

I've looked for batteries around Ap Liu St... it's a hard and frustrating experience as most shops carry exactly the same stock. Who knows, you could get lucky, but if you can wait for a couple of international shipments it'll save you a lot of legwork.

Anyway, do let us know if you manage to discover any stores that carry a wide range of batteries.

I don't understand why you think the HK based ebay sellers won't send to HK. I've purchased several batteries in the last 2 weeks from HK based sellers.

When I do a search for the one you want I get 11 sellers in HK who are quoting a price for p&p to HK.

Cheapest seems to be this one, at US$10 + US$2 for P&P:

BATTERY FIT Sony NW-A1000,NW-A1200s,NW-A1200v,A1000 NEW on eBay, also Replacement Batteries, For MP3 Players, iPod MP3 Accessories, Electronics (end time 28-Apr-09 05:37:57 BST)

Actually a lot of them on the international eBay sites (.com or .co.uk) make much of their money on the shipping fees. They price low to attract bids, then increase the shipping fees to bump up their profit.

Some do, some don't. I buy from "Yesshop", a HK seller on .co.uk - many of his battery auctions have a single "buy it now" price and shipping is free to anywhere in the world. I got 2 digi camera batteries for GBP6.99 (less than HK$80) and free shipping

Bottom line is only a fool doesn't check what the combined purchase and shipping price is.

I think the one I provided the link to in my original post is pretty fair - US$10 for the battery and US$2 for the postage.
