WorkComposer "Employee Monitoring App" - Screenshots Leaked

There you go .. on the list of things that you knew would happen.

    • Employer mandates a monitoring app be used to keep track of what employees are working on.
    • Said application takes screenshots and stores them on "open" Amazon storage buckets.
    • Passwords and a lot of other things leaked in those images....

Yes.. what could go wrong? At the very least these apps should have the option to store the images on a local network and not on a public cloud.

I know that in some progressive countries employees are horrified at the idea of having to go to the office to do a day's work and meet colleagues face to face.

Is the need for such monitoring software a result of WFH?

When a 90 minute commute (if you’re lucky) sets you back around 40K HK per year the clamour to WFH becomes more attractive.

Give and take. Most of my team work from home and for the most part they get their work done without big brother watching them.

It's all well and good for old companies who know how much work should be assigned, but wouldn't it be difficult for employers or managers with less experience to make such calculations? You could have under utilised staff sitting at home because they've done the assigned task but delay submitting or whatever.

That happens in offices as well. How many of the long working hours in Hong Kong are actually productive?

If anything is old it's this way of thinking. As a manager, do you think I continuously walk through the aisles with a rattan stick and hit people's hands when they're not typing on a keyboard?

If you are the office manager then you probably won't know the difference between what happens when you're there and when you're not there.
