    The electronics shop (sound & vision?) in the departure area is noticeably more expensive than the fortress shop in the pre-departure area (i.e. prior to immigration)

    sorry off the subject, can anyone tell m eif this is a good offer for a laptop, acer as4740g-332g323 $5798, i3 processor, 320gb, 14" monitor, dvd super drive, geforece g310 and other bells and whistles, is this good value for the price or can you recommend any sub $6000 laptop with better specs.thx

    As far as I have ever been able to tell, there are no duties on electronics in Hong Kong. So the purpose of stores selling 'duty free' electronics at HK airport is primarily to capture a premium from tourists who are ignorant of local pricing.
