    YouTube+VPN vs GFW

I am trying to access youtube in China, and I know its blocked by great firewall. However even when using my VyprVPN account it still gets blocked. Im using a mac and safari/firefox and have tried a connection to my VPN ports in US west coast, US east coast, and Amsterdam...all of which still wont get youtube unblocked. porn is ok, and anti-china blogs are ok...but nothing for youtube.

anything you can think of that would prevent youtube from being unblocked by the VPN? Anything i can do to get it working again while visiting litterers-R-us?

without VPN turned on...that link redirects to www.chenlu.info and stops loading....

with VPN on.... the link allows me to view youtube pages...but all videos display "an error occurred" when i try to playback.

There is a whole list of unblocker sites here:

    Proxy.org - The Proxy Authority

On the right hand side, the green ones should be active now. sslunblock just happens to be my favourite.

Not sure if any of them work for you.

Damn the chinese, blocking the unblock sites as well!

but thats the wierd thing.... VyprVPN is a great VPN connection ive been using. And VPN's based in US or Europe should be able to load those sites. With it i can load Facebook, porn, anti-china, news sites that get blocked, access google and gmail when blocked, etc.

so its really odd that youtube is not able to unblock. Im wondering if there is a setting or something i need to switch on youtubes site or in my cookies or something?

Have you checked if the VPN redirects the DNS Server? If you still use the Chinese DNS Server, the Domain name doesn't get translated and is therefore not reachable.
If under Windows, type ipconfig /all into a command prompt window and see what the DNS Server is. Maybe someone can help what to do under Mac.

I use openVPN to my own server in HK. I had the same problem and added

    push "dhcp-option DNS 210.0.128.250"

to the server config file (That is a DNS Server of Hutchinson HK). After that everything worked fine.

i use a mac, and run openDNS updater to update my IP and DNS server everywhere i go. This runs in background while VyprVPN runs as well.

hmm, this may be something to do with youtube maybe blocking certain vpns.

you may want to contact vyper, they may issue you with an updated server.

btw, this is just speculation. i know that hulu is doing this, so it could be the case that other websites are also doing this.
