    Packet loss caused by earthquake?

I noticed that most sites I try to connect to in the US are having major packet loss issues, as soon as it leaves Hong Kong. Both cogentco.com and qwest.net are dropping like mad:

Anyone else having this problem? I remember a similar thing happening a few years ago after an earthquake in Taiwan...

Yes, lots of slow connections as I assume people are watching a far more rich media telecasts (like I am on BBC), bad routing by low cost consumer ISPs ( Europe traffic routes through US as opposed to Middle East) AND perhaps some cables being lost / equipment damaged (not confirmed).

No problems at work through HGC. Have had problems at home on PCCW.

What a weekend to schedule major upgrades. (We were going to turn on a virtual server in a Tokyo datacenter this weekend...)

Know of a public DNS in Europe which will route our connections the other way?

DNS does not do routing. DNS tells you where the server is (IP address) and your ISP then sends the packet down the best / cheapest route.
