No, Thats not the reason, I was awake at 1.30 am at night and I saw its available. I could have ordered it and get it. Here the case is knowing the root-cause of mess up. I was surprised when i read here that they allowed 5 per order, thats where I was surprised about their strategy at HK.

Anyway, hope you will be able to get one soon.

I'd say that their marketing plan is perfectly executed. How better to create hype and make believe that everyone has one or wants one than creating some shortages?

Apple has been brilliant in marketing these gadgets to make believe that they are worth the outrageous price they want for them and people are just lapping it up and buying like never before...

Making a launch and a big deal for phones with white covers...Seriously?!

I agree. I wish I had a quarter of the marketing nonce as Apple. They very rarely promote, they have journalists save them billions in marketing dollars and they have such robust products which are not powerful but amazing user interfaces that are far superior than anything on the market.

For all the other posters I don't think that Apple factored in the Japanese earthquake and higher an unexpected demand.

I've only just been playing with the ipad1 recently and see it's a potential netbook killer. Most people just use computers to surf the net and chat online and the ipad does precisely that remarkably well. I just wish it had a 15 inch screen.

Where?! I looked at a couple of authorised apple resellers in central, all sold out.

Compared to the competition the iPad is actually cheap.

Also part of the clever marketing, to bridge the time to the arrival of the iPhone 5. 'This changes everything. Again.'
