Website protection - Copy and operation

What's the latest best most effective method of design copyright for websites and the way they operate (mechanism not coding) ? Look and feel issues and cloning are in the forefront of our thinking. We particularly have an interest in the Chinese Mainland way but welcome the "world" view also.

FYI _ We have always registered our designs with a lawyer and never carried out formal ( expensive ) processes. This seems to have worked fine with the courts as proving the originality of the work - HOWEVER with the mainlands 30% rule being taken as the norm, we think more may be needed.

Facebook vs Renren.com, you will see copyright does not apply to China. Best thing is, they got IPO in NYSE too.

Could be either. I doubt anyone is actually doing anything due to the dearth of replies from a community that has lots of IT workers in it. Maybe we will rely on our political contacts with 2 board directors of the PRC side being party members.

Would be good to get some experience feedback though.
