Well based on what you wrote earlier, they want a Secure FTP server to transmit data. So either its SFTP if windows based or SCP if its Linux/Unix based.

If you are running just Win XP or Windows something not server, you can setup a FTP server using:

Highlights of FTP Server for Windows 7/2008/Vista/2003/XP - BPFTP Server 2011 from BPFTP

or setup FTP on your windows server which is free:

You'd be surprised. A lot of the time "secure FTP site" means a FTP site secured with a password (i.e. not anonymous), not SFTP.

Given this is the philippines we are talking about, it would not surprise me. I will start by trying dropbox using your cunning phrase earlier; if that fails will try installing the windows7 thingy HongKongFoot linked to (it had easy to understand instructions!)....

We have to finish negotiating the fact that some of the money didn't arrive due to bank fees first though !

What HongKongFoot suggested may sound easy (everyone can install Windows programs), but it gets a bit more complicated as a non-IT person if you need to give them your (WAN) IP address, have your router forward the port to the specific windows computer, create user account and permissions, etc... I'd just try the Drop Box route, get somebody to setup an SFTP server for you, or pay the money for the discs if you want to get back to what you usually do to earn money.

HKFoot accurately describes the process of setting up an FTP server on a Windows machine.

But I assume that your office network has firewall or other security features which block the connection from outside to your FTP server. However, the network just might be intelligent enough to disarm (via UPnP) these to let your FTP server function. It's worth trying at least - if you do, disable any personal firewall software you might be running on the PC, or least allow an exception when it prompts for one.

If your office router has a network cable port which says DMZ, you should be able to bypass the security features by plugging the PC with the FTP server software to that port.

But again if the file transfer need is recurring and/or heavy duty, renting a virtual server might be a solution. They come with intelligible web control interfaces. Perhaps worth noting that if you're hosting a website somewhere, you might already have a server which could be used for this purpose too.

Call me paranoid, but if you're using Dropbox, you don't really know where your data is, who exactly has access to it, and furthermore, now perhaps the paranoid part, what the Dropbox process sitting on your computer actually does, etc.

Be lazy and use Microsoft's SkyDrive?

There's a big handy list of other services here:
