annoyingly slow internet if I am uploading!

I sometimes have to upload files for work ( anything from 20 to 3 or 4 hundred meg )

but when I am uploading which goes up to 64K/sec

the download sucks! web pages take for ever etc etc

any one have any ideas about this? there's probably an explanation right?

I am in a villiage house and have no options but PCCW

( they have poor customer service ) and the modem needs to be reset quite frequently,, ( not sure why could be my cats faffing around near the mode,/router )

wished I could get some serious upload speeds!

What sort of connection do you have? Dial up? 4mbps DSL?

Even my pathetic 8M from PCCW can get 300-400 k/b sec. And that is wireless.

its DSL - I thought it was a 5M ( i had the account for about 8 years - so could be a bit vague on the actual details ) previously in Shueng wan - now in a green villiage off the clearwater bay road.

download mostly is good - sometimes see 400 K/b per sec

but uploading never exceeds 64K/b per sec and thats when web pages become unresponsive - bbc news, geoexpat, pretty much everything reverts to early dialup modem feel.

is it normal for downloads to become super slow when I am uploading? or is it a feature of my area of ancient modem ( altho I had it changed a year ago and the one they gave me also looks ancient!

ive noticed that my macbook has unbelievably slow uploads. even on my 100M connection at work it tends to be about 10 times slower at uploading then my PC's in the office. Yet for downloads its faster then the PC's.

Not sure if there is a setting i need to adjust on the macbook.

There must be some settings on the modem or PC that is limiting the upload speed.
