I did a search, but only came up with a few, extremely old threads.
My needs aren't too high, I just need to have a high performing shared LAMP setup, on a solid backbone. Shell access would be great as well.
Any (modern) suggestions?

I decided to just go with a US server, and use a CDN for images and video. Webhosts in Hong Kong are like they were teleported from 2001, in terms of price and features.
I agree. The pricing here is screwed up.
We're moving a large number of sites in Sept from HK to the US.
What CDN do you plan using? Have had a lot of good luck with Softlayer who we moved over to from Amazon.
hi
Hong kong based webhosting cost is high?
is it really?
Yes it is.
High price, outdated hardware and software (think PHP 4), poorly configured and horribly managed.
Unless you go with something like Rackspace, Dedipower in which case its still expensive but very well managed and you get over all top notch service.

Not always. Have been pretty impressed with the setup by the guys at VPS Hosting China : VPS Hosting HK : VPS Hosting Asia | Cloud Hosting
Looks good, too bad they run plesk virtuozzo instead of Xen.
My experience is that hosts tend to oversell their capacity with virtuozzo to get a better price point.
Anyhow it is one of the better offers I have seen in HK.
