Any Suggestions for faster internet in clearwater bay

    Hello,

I live in CWB and have PCCW DSL and have had for 3-ish years. Is there any faster alternative at any price?

Are any of the other providers faster? My connection maxes out at about 500 kb/s and has these awful lag spikes that can last for 20 minutes sometimes (Apple tv stutters to a halt) where im getting 20 kb/s

    Is the fiber anywhere near?

Is there afaster DSL solution with another provider?

Any information or correction of my assumptions would be appreciated

In addition if this helps - I have a 5.5 year old modem I got from PCCW back in 2005 when i lived in the mid levels - it is an NEC NTA-3110 - I think that is for crappy NOW TV.

I also have another modem that is black that says "broadband" on it and has the numbers X7722r+

Is it possible I need new boxes? The tech is way old so hmmm if so but I would try anything.

I guess I should ask as well - is PCCW throttling me for some reason?

As an update I called PCCW (got a very nice lady who really speaks english if anyone needs one) and she says no fiber but I can upgrade to 8M from 6M.

I never get more than 3M so is there any reason to upgrade?

I just did a speedcheck on my connection, 6.86 mbps download speed, upload 0.65 mbps for a HK server, US server: 4.87 mbps, UK server: 5.82 mbps

I heard from one of the pccw tech that in villages the max you can get is 6M.

Just depends on the infrastructure in the area. If you aren't hitting 6M on a 6M connection you aren't gonna get more on an 8M connection. Maybe there is an upload speed gain that might make upgrading worth it tho. Changing providers is also highly unlikely to improve download speeds. Lag spikes maybe if there is something wrong with PCCWs equipment in the area but if that is an issue isolated to you then it is more likely an issue between you and the exchange or within the building.

I'm in the same situation in roughly the same area. When my PCCW contract runs out, I am going to try CSL's LTE network. It depends on whether there is even 4G LTE service in my area though... But if it works, we should be able to get reasonable speeds (at a much higher cost though)

Call iCable and see what they offer. They are using a version of DOCIS 3.0 which is advertised at 100mbps though you won't see that to overseas.

The other option is to get an LTE stick from 1010 or someone and go wireless. I've seen 40mbps on some speed tests with that.

LTE says after 5 GB you will be de-priortized for the network. That won't work for me as I stream thins for Apple TV right?

If the former HKBN has fibre to many blocks now. I upgraded from PCCW 6m as they had no other choices to HKBN Fibre1000, and wish had done it sooner.

    Can't help if Clearwater.
