I'd hardly call someone who would pay $190 for a fax modem a mug... just convert that into USD/GBP or some currency that has less numbers in it than HK.

"They charged me 14 quid for a fax modem, man, they really ripped me off" just sounds kind of petty. Many people value their time and couldn't be arsed spending an hour comparison shopping in a heaving mall to save the cost of a Happy Meal.

On the other hand, I would call someone who paid for a fax modem stuck in the nineties. It's like going shopping for IDE drives and ribbon cables.

Yes, i am indeed stuck in the nineties but it is not my fault. My job (proof reading of confidential files) requires me not to receive and send files using free online fax serves mainly due to security reasons. I believe there are still few people like me who are stuck in the nineties and still use fax machines or modems!

Don't bother shopping at MK anymore. Prices are high because of the location. You'd think you'd be getting good service from such high prices, but in fact a good percentage of them seem to be in some kind of perpetual grouch-mode. Been visiting that place for many years, and last year was the last straw with one shopkeeper scolding my friend for asking the price of a newly released CPU.

Stick with Golden Arcade, the big floor above that, Wan Chai Computer Centre (although they're a tad expensive), and 298 Computer Centre. At the very least you can get super friendly & helpful services.

Prices in HK for just about any item or product has skyrocketed.
Take Sweden for example, my home country which I used to think was mad expensive.
The same tv I bought here in HK would have been HK$5,000 cheaper to buy in Sweden and ship to HK! compared to buying it here (which is what I did as I didn't wanna wait 4-8weeks for it.).

HK is far from the cheap consumer electronics mecca it used to be 10 years ago.
No thanks to property owners and their ridiculous rents.
