Kindle vs Nexus 7 and availability in HK

It seems according to price.com.hk, the Kindle Paper White Touch WiFi is available in HK for $1,680 or a bit less but that's well above the US$119 that Americans will pay Amazon. So I was thinking, is it worth going for the Nexus 7 as an e-reader with a bit more? Or, is the basic Kindle okay without a backlight?

Depends on whether you want to read books (Kindle), or browse the browse the internet/magazines (tablet).

Edit: I use both types of devices, no way would I be read an entire book on a tablet if I had an alternative.

i have the next 7 with the kindle app installed - if you're not after the lowlight from the kindle i'd go this way

A few things to note:

- Can you even get stock of the Kindle? According to the amazon.com website, it won't be shipping until 21 December?

- Any Kindle paperwhite device you buy in HK will be grey good, and therefore the price will in any case be higher than what its sold in the US.

- The US quoted price doesn't include sales tax which will be applied.

- Expansys as selling the Paperwhite wifi (with special offers) for around HK$1k, but no stock at present.

Thanks. Went with the Nexus 7. I am very happy with it. Perfect weight and size for reading and other bits and pieces. HK$2390 for the 32 gb model from Centralfield in Golden Arcade

The selling point of a kindle (for me) is that it doesn't hurt your eyes if you read it for a long time. So I'm not sure the two are comparable, really. I have a kindle and I love it. Saying that, my wife keeps bloody stealing it.
