also i don't know if this means anything, but i'm sending and receiving data (though it says no internet/network access for IPv4 and IPv6)

as it tries to connect it sends the connection credentials like username/password and receives the server reponse like wrong password/server down/etc..
alright just did it. still not working though :/ this might be a dumb, but there are four ports on the back of the modem and the one i've been running to the router (and now my desktop) is the WLAN one..that should be correct right? also idk if this is important, but when i had my desktop plugged into the router, the light was solid orange.
Did ur pc connect using pppoe??did u get back any error code?
The reason u shud try connecting with pc is to get back the response and analyse what might have gone wrong...
yes its wlan port that shud be plugged....yes the orange means ur adapter is connected

nope it didn't connect...i tried using the windows tool and the error was error 651..any clues?
There is a high chance ur modem is defective..you can confirm this by doing the same pppoe setup on another windows laptop if u have one or ur mac if u have the ethernet port...

same error with a different laptop. would the problem only be with the modem, not the router? my mom is trying to get me to take the router back to get looked at (i got it at the wanchai computer center) but if it's not the router then i won't have to go.
if you get the same error 651, call netvigator to replace it...they will send a tech to do it for u free...
chances are very slim for the router to be defective...
you dint connect ur router at all, when u tried the pppoe connection in ur pc and macbook. am i right???....

yeah the router is brand new so i don't think that's it. nope i tried going from the LAN port on the modem straight to my desktop/laptop. then i have a quick followup: how is it that the modem becomes defective as soon as i try to install a new router?
okay i finally got it working. i ended up disabling IPv6 and i think netvigator got my login info wrong. long story about that, but it's up and running now. thanks a lot to @shafiq for the help!
