    It'd be better to keep the router running as a firewall though, regardless of any speed impact.

    @OP: let us know if you sort this out, I'd be interested to know what the cause is.

    Sorry gang, been hella busy and no chance to fiddle with it. Will look at it sometime this week and let you know.

    Otay...done and done.

    Not sure what it was, as I ended up making several adjustments at once before retesting speed:
    - upgraded firmware of router
    - turned off IPV6 Filtering
    - changed to Cat 6 cables everywhere

    Now im getting same exact speeds whether i go direct to modem or through router.

    Good to hear. So to confirm, are now able to stream HD porn without buffering issues anymore.
