Does anyone have any experience/advice on transfering internet service contracts?

I currently have a contract and I might be leaving in about a year - which would leave about 10 months on it. What are the risks to me if I transfer it to someone else?

More urgently, a friend of mine is moving to HK soon for about 6-8 months. If he picks up the tail end of a contract, what are the dangers there? I hear it's common for people to want buyers to pay for the remainder of the contract ahead of time (which is what I would want if I were to transfer mine later) but for my friend, it seems risky since the contract stays in the original owner's name, right? So could an original owner interfere with the service, once the rest of it is paid off? Like, once they get someone to pay off the entire contract, tell the internet provider to "relocate" again and cut off the buyer's service?

Thanks for any advice!
