I just called (as well as checked with the guys on the street in front of wanchai computer centre) and was quoted $368+680inst.

    I'd snap at $250.

owell. i just terminated my HKBN because they felt they could charge me 33% more to renew, for the same service.

So now I'll pay more to PCCW out of spite

Do I need some form of protection though with a direct connection to the modem?
If you need to ask, then you need the protection of a router.

    You can negotiate with HKBN.

How is the HKBN speed then?

I am just end of PCCW contract. I got a 30M and my up/down speed is really near 30M according to speedtest.net - so in terms of speed and quality I am happy with PCCW.

HKBN has an attractive bundled package for 100M - does anybody has something similar from HKBN and knows the real speed? I am only concerned about daytime speed for work use.

Aye, I got NOD32 with my HKBN contract (had MSE before), so installed that. Using Malwarebytes too but then I've never been infected since Win7 came out.

Well I have a 1000mb connection and get 600mb on Speedtest. When downloading videos from Youtube I get a simultaneous max download speed of around 60-65mb (max would be around 75mb). Now I can just let my subs mass up in my RSS feed and then download 1080p straight to my NAS in seconds. It's perfect! When using a torrent program, I get 50-60mb max download with 20+ torrents and an unlimited upload speed.

I say just get the 1000mb and be done with it.

Have to say I am really happy with the 30M I have now, and if 100M on HKBN is the same I am happy too. 1000M is over HK$10,000 - vs. 228 for 100M - not hard to guess which one to chose....

I got 1000mb for $238 a month without installation fee.

FWIW, got my PCCW 1000M fiber installed yesterday and I'm not pleased. Local speedtest obviously passed the test but the sole reason for getting this was for overseas bandwidth and my tests to Europe and Canada show higher ping times than I was getting on HKBN.

    HKBN : 180-220ms
    PCCW : 270-290ms

I may downgrade to 300M or so seeing as 1000M isn't going to give any different overseas service.

I'll report back after the week to see if things improve.
