    Mac OS re-installation

Having a real head fuck here at the moment and already snapped at the wife.
Selling my old MBP 2009 model.
Originally came with snow leopard for which I still have install disks for.
As it is going to new owner I deleted my user account and then wiped the disk with disk utility after rebooting doing ctrl+r
Now it wont let me restore from dvd as it says it cant install to shown hard drive or from online as saying there is an error with disk.
It did used to have mavericks on it.
Disk utility says hard drive ok.
Shall I just make another partition and see if it will install on there or am I doing something totally dumb?

You can try repartitioning it, make sure you have selected the right format (extended journal, GID). If that fails, reset the PRAM (cmd-opt-P-R at boot, wait for chime, restart, then release keys).

If that fails, you might have an hard disk hardware issue.

Thanks. I was hoping I would get one sensible answer. Will try this and let you know.

Did u erase the full disk using disk utility or just the partition? Try erasing full disk including the recovery n bootcamp (if present) and try reinstalling!! Is this the dvd which came with the mac?

View & Mount Hidden Partitions in Mac OS X

As others have said, you have to remove the recovery partition first, then format your drive and start a fresh install of 10.6.

From what I've heard on this site about the ease of operating and maintaining a Mac, I would have thought you could just say (Scotty* style), "Computer, please re-install your OS".

Remove partitions, format drives..... that's like what you do with real computers!
