    Working for a mapping software

I'm in need of a piece of software which would make life much easier for my missus for her work.

She basically wants to plot photos of properties onto a street map. I guessing anything that I can dump a map image and then plot points that stores photos would be good enough.

Has anyone come across anything similar? Something web based?

Ideally it would work cross platform (OSX and Windows). And I guessing with the large number of plotting, not suitable for a smartphone.

    Google My Maps.

Colour code the pegs based on the data set you are trying to visualise and have photos when you hover over them

East Coast's solution is what you're looking for...

If you want to get more geeky .. research KML (Keyhole Markup Language)...

Your photos may also have GPS coordinates in their exif data .. may also be possible to automate with picasa.

    Hmmmmm...thanks for the suggestions guys.

My experience with Google Maps, and this is from about 7-8 years ago, was that it had a limit to the number of plot marks added?

Great idea about the GPS coordinates, Shri, will give that a little play tonight.

My Synology NAS has this mapping function built in that users the GPS coordinates built into photo's (most smartphones etc store the GPS coordinate when you take a photo). Synology has 'Photo Station' web server and it has iphone and android app called 'DS Photo'.

For example, I have just returned from a holiday to Vietnam. I dump all the pictures on my NAS in a folder called "Vietnam Holiday" and then the NAS does the rest. On android, IOS, or website, I can browse my family photo's and then switch to 'Map Mode' and see all my holidays around the world, then can zoom into a particular city and can see the pins in each location I took a photo and click on a pin to see the pictures. It uses google maps as the base map but has its own functionality.

After a little tinkering with the GPS stored in the photos, it's not a viable option. The coordinates are not accurate enough, I guess the current tech and tall buildings of HK doesn't help, so a property can end up incorrectly on another block.

Picasa let you associate coordinates to pictures (you can select the precise point on a map). Not sure if it's exportable...I know I see a map on the right side when I browse the album via web

You can add multiple photos to a plot point using the my maps thing on google. as far as i can tell there isnt really a limit
