Mac book pro - switching to finder is glacial

got an aging mac book pro ( 2009 )

had a spare SSD - which had 2 partitions on -

I simply cloned my 10.6.8 partition and ran that - fine - no probs..

I also backed up my macmini system drive to the other partition.. ( 10.8.5 server )

as an experiment - I tried to boot from that on my old MBP - and it works!

but sometimes I am getting super slow switching to the finder!

    between apps its super snappy.

anyone have any ideas, I have an inkling that its if my mac mini is on the network at the same time?

    or is it something else?

I suppose I could try upgrading - but it may suit me better to wait a while before upgrading~

It's because the bus speed for the original hard disk isn't fast enough to cope with the speeds of an SSD, that's why you get the lag. So anything the required reading data that's on the hard disk that is not in the current memory cache, it'll lag.

My ex flat mate did the same with his 2009 MBP, would lag from time to time. And I even bunged on 10.9.5 to give it a whirl.

If it's glacial, I would try to find out whether any frozen chapattis are involved.
