google chrome maps: how to go back

got a macbook pro, and always use chrome. but google maps has sunk to a very low position in my world, though i like maps and geography, etc. now maps has so much commercial junk, can't find the measuring tool, boxes popping up and down... in total, just downright a nuisance.

Any relief possible? like go back to the olden days, when the maps function worked for me.

Youtube now has more adverts than an American cable channel

I use Google Maps on Chrome on multiple devices and never have much of a problem.

Decided to see if mapquest was still alive ...they are!

They use openstreetmap now and their UI seems to be closer to the old Google Maps experience.

I use Google Maps on Safari regularly, not had any issues with ads popping up.

Lots and lots of companies use Openstreetmap as its open and mostly free; unlike Google and their onerous licensing terms.
