this is a work issue. my dell is out of warranty. hard drive crashed. Dell cannot provide the original OS and the drivers on a disk. why? why do i have to wait till tomorrow? i thought we were in the digital age.

Unfortunately, digital age mostly mean the latest version/model. Considering your machine has pass the warranty period indicate that it is quite an 'old' model. Internet should provide the drivers on most cases.

yes but this should be the service. installation OS and all the drivers. why is it so hard?

Hemm, may be they can provide fast service for their selected latest models only? May be they do not have physical tools (drivers etc) for your model and need time to prepare it? Assuming that the problem is related to 'old' model, not Dell overall service level.

And it never, ever, occurred to you do take backups, did it?

Thus bypassing Dell, or any vendor customer service issues completely.

Install a vanilla OS. Download the drivers from Dell instead of expecting everything on a silver platter. Then take backups.

What 'service' are you paying for here, exactly? Your machine is out of the warranty period, i.e. the period you pay to keep receiving support services. Out of this period, it's your responsibility to keep your gear taken care of, or if you're not able to do that, pay for extended warranties.
