    Alipay via Octopus App

Yesterday, I made a few purchases on taobao and elected to take the Alipay via Octopus route for payment.

Wow - I feel like I'm living in the future!

    • I had the Octopus app installed on my Android phone, and 'enrolled' (you do it in app and there is a 24 hour waiting period before your Octopus is linked fully to the app)
    • At checkout on taobao you select alipay which shows you a QR code
    • Scan the QR code (it will ask you to hold your Octopus to the phone) with the taobao app and payment is done

Very good experience ... normally I would use paypal, but TIC (This Is China)

    * of course, your phone must support NFC (sorry OnePlus Two owners)

The problem I have is that my Octopus handles $250 a day. Paid for some purchases and then later in the day, could not get out of the parking lot in Cyberport.... major embarrassment with dozens of people held up behind me while the parking attendant wandered over and let me out.

Just saying .. be careful if you have one of those low daily limit octopus cards.
