I just noticed that CHubb and a few other companies offer Cyber threat insurance.

Wonder if they're cover some of these mass scale attacks.

After I paid the initial 2 BTC ($1000), the tool they provided me generated 4 keys and I think they might have realised we are a company and then they replied "More money". I thought oh fuck these guys are scamming me and I dont even know they have the capability to decrypt even if they wanted to. But I was in a bad situation so I paid another 2 BTC (total 5) and then they decrypted my files.
Your story doesn't add up (pun intended). 2 BTC and another 2 BTC = 4 I think its a small consultant fee to pay to highlight security issues and thus increasing incentive for you to harden down the system.

Few reports of ransomware received in HK so far - RTHK
Only 3 reported cases so far? There's gotta be a lot more.

Edit: Oh wait, 17 so far: Hong Kong mostly unscathed by 'Wannacry' attack - RTHK

The HKCERT website is actually a good page to bookmark, their Security Bulletin is updated almost everyday:

AON (the insurance company) just sent around an email listing all the stuff they can do to help. I guess everything is a marketing opportunity for someone!

It’s only a matter of time before people get messages on their car screens saying that the engine has been disabled and it will cost US$200 in bitcoin to turn it back on.
