KPTI - Kernel Page Table Isolation - intelbug - meltdown

    Happy New Year geoexpatters!

Here's something you'll probably hear about shortly, another IT system weakness with the ability to bring the world to it's knees

There is a new exploit in the wild which affects all intel CPU’s made in the last 10 years or more.
It’s known as Meltdown and the fix is known as KPTI (Kernel Page Table Isolation)

Read about the exploit here: https://meltdownattack.com/
    Follow it on Twitter: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23intelbug&src=typd
    Google’s response: https://security.googleblog.com/2018...-need.html?m=1
    AWS response: https://aws.amazon.com/security/secu.../AWS-2018-013/

High level summary: rogue programs can access memory they are not supposed to be able to reach. Only Intel CPU’s are affected.
The Fix: at this stage, it appears the KPTI fix results in an approximate 30% performance reduction in CPU activity
