+1 for dual sim phones for people who want to stay anonymous.
You have two SIMs - one that you use for various social media platforms for SMS based authentication / random communications. One that you use for your day to day use.
Too late for me - have had the same number for 20+ years and have used it in a fair few places for authentication / SMS notifications.
That has been the case since forever. It's not a new feature. Also using Authenticator App for 2FA is better than your phone number, since it also works when you don't have network coverage.
I would expect Facebook to suck down your phones IMEI number so they could track you more accurately, in addition to phone number.
And here we go:
Folks handing over their mobile numbers to protect their accounts from takeovers and hijackings thought the contact detail would be used for just that: security. Instead, Facebook is using the numbers to link netizens to other people, and target them with online ads.
