Doesn't work for me, so no it wouldn't make more sense.
Further more; I suspect it only tests speeds within HK - most content people access is international so speedtest.net is more relevant as you going select a global server to test.

HKBN are offering FibreHome500 for $189 a month, which is less than I pay for a slow PCCW 8M connection.
Anyone experience this? Any catches?
I've been with them for a few months and generally they are fine for both local and foreign sites. I do note that they cap foreign access at about 20M (previously I was with PCCW 30M and there was no capping). But 20M is still pretty fast.
Saying that I know a few others on the board have had a problem with HKBN in the past.
BTW how long are they asking you to commit for?
24 mnths contract, free monthly fee waived during 13th-17th month, and a $600 cake voucher.
The best I get with PCCW is around 6.5M so 20M anywhere would be a luxury. Right now I'me 5.72/.53 which is pretty pathetic.
I should point out that 20M is a cap, chances are you will get much slower than that, but for me its def faster than my previous 8M PCCW connection, but not as fast as my 30M PCCW connection.
I should add with usenet I do get the max 20M speeds.
However, I'm thinking of moving to Giganews, so I get full 100M speeds.

Trying to get straight answers out of the online service centre is like pulling teeth!
The FibreHome 500 and 1000 plans for $189 and $199 a month look pretty good value, and since nothing can be worse than my 8M PCCW line I will switch.
I guess PCCW will make it as difficult as possible to cancel, but that is expected. For a start you can not cancel online, a form has to be collected from the shop and posted to PCCW. Then there is the chance they will say they never received the cancellation letter and another month is charged to your account.
That is what they did to me the last time I cancelled the land line, and it was only after I had a letter published in the SCMP pointing out their disgusting business habits did I get refunds.
At the end of the 24 month HKBN contract the price reverts to $348/$398 on a monthly deal or "Brian Au: the standard montly fee for 5000M is $348, but it always will do a renewal of contract for another promotional price "
"C: Will I be sharing the line with any other homes?
C: do u have any other subscribers that will be using the line
C: or do i get full and sole
access to a 500M cable
Brian Au: the broadband service is an individual service... for 500M user... the bandwidth is 500M "
Does anyone have advice for an ISP for Tsuen Wan?
