Hence my question above. Shouldn't be any problem to ask someone to open an account for you overseas. It's just a question how often you need the phone verification.

I've only ever used my google account to log in. My google account is linked to my HK telephone number.

There are actually quite a few other options one can use, so no big deal, i.e....

I use it pretty often. I need to have my VPN turned on to a US location. To sign up I had to use a US phone number and they text you a code to set up the account.

I used my google account which is primarily attached to my HK number, but I gave it another US number where I was able to use the confirmation code from.

I was able to run a few queries a few weeks ago and it did output something that was vague but coherent, but I wasn't super impressed. Maybe I need to give it another spin.

I'm sure it will be used to help make it even more impossible to ever reach a real person through customer service, but a lot of the hype here, especially the "XYZ industry head says ChatGPT will destroy Google in 2 years!" or "Chat GPT passes doctoral exam" feels very much like astroturfed marketing stunts designed to pump up their value to VC firms.

We already saw one poster on Geo using ChatGPT to make answers to questions - wonder how many people actually realized this though....
