If you have been there for a long time I'm sure you know that during certain times of year service might be affected.

Usually during political events. Maybe it's affected because of CNY?

Letsvpn is probably the best one at the moment.. but I'd just recommend roaming if you can afford it.

3HK e-sim or a 65gb prepaid sim in sham shui po should be ok and no hassle.

I get a free Trojan QR code from SSHOcean or similar and run that in V2Ray, works perfectly

I'm in Shanghai now and Surfshark seems to work fine when on their wifi.

I think SoSIM's mainland packages are cheap enough for the time when I'm physically in China, but digitally I want to be elsewhere. You can currently buy SoSIM's 365-Day Travel Data (Greater China) for 138HKD, which gets you 10GB, and then you can buy as many top-ups as you want for 10HKD per 1GB. You can also buy 500MB per day for 10HKD. SoSIM also usually has more coupons in their app than most people use, but it can make the above prices slightly cheaper if that's what you're after.

If you want to watch a bunch of YouTube videos and stream Netfllix stuff while physically in China, well you might want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, I think SoSIM is easy, cheap, and good enough.
