    ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Review

gives it a big thumbs up.

Re Tiger Sun: don't know if it included shipping, but it was being shipped to a US address. it seems new egg don't offer international shipping though.

Here is the new egg offer:

Ok - I think, barring any major keyboard issues, I'm going to wait for this one.

By the way, have in general found the pricing to be much cheaper in the US, so might just troll EBAY and pick something up from there.

    Netbook with 16GB SSD

I'm looking to buy a netbook soon (To avoid carrying my Dell brick when travelling) and would like to know anyone's experiences with the 16GB SSD versions.

i.e. How much of the 16GB is taken up by default installed programs?, how much do you need to keep free to avoid any Windows 'low disk space' issues?

I would only be looking to install Openoffice and perhaps some other small media related programs.

I realise there are versions now with 120/160GB HD but like the idea of a solid state disk for robustness and speed.

    Any help is much appreciated

Stoob - I did a fresh install on a new DELL in the office. XP + MS Office 2007 took up 4GB.

My problem is mail folders - my mail folders take up about 6-8GB which makes 16GB SSDs too small for anything useful.

    Shri, thanks for the info.

Was this a standard install of XP on a normal PC or on a Netbook, i.e. is the netbook version cut down in any way?

On my travels I would use the company webmail service so I wouldn't have to worry about large email boxes.

Normal Netbook (checked LG and ASUS last week) still uses the same XP Home / Pro installs from what I can see. You can tweak it down .. but I'm of the school of thought that it is better to have everything installed, as I'll probably need it some day or the other.

    Shri,

Have you considered the Olevia X10A ? Pretty much standard specs running Ubuntu Linux (with a strangely MacOSish looking desktop) for HK$2880!
