umm the game is counter-strike: source 12-16 slot server at 100tick..
that's probably the details you need. each slot should take up about 120KBPS parallel speed.

HK hosting has very poor bandwidth, most plans are lucky to hit 1mb not the 2mb you need.

This makes me wonder the upload bandwidth quality of the HGC/HKBN 20-100mb lines. Most of the HK popular chat boards appear to be hosted in datacentres, but maybe you need special privilege to get those rates as I'm sure they're not paying the rate the centres would like to charge.

    120 x 16 so, you roughly need 2Mbit.

You cheapest option is to signup for Netfront 4M/4M at HK$598 with a fixed IP. You host the dedicated server in your home.

I'm still curious why nobody has setup a proper hosting company here in Hong Kong.. that I know of at least. Is it the bandwidth pricing? The space pricing? I mean, added together it's pretty tough to turn a profit I imagine..

I mean, how exactly does HKIX peering work in Hong Kong? Do you just pay for a network drop? Do you have to pay per usage?

Is it possible to setup some kind of low-cost HK heavy (through HKIX) provider with limited and/or slow international bw? I think there's a market for that if the pricing worked out.

www.rackspace.com.hk would probably beg to differ with your opinion.

Rackspace and half a dozen other international and local players would probably beg to differ with your opinion.

    Hrm. Connection down.

    [spike:bk] ~/personal> ping www.rackspace.com.hk
ping: cannot resolve www.rackspace.com.hk: Host name lookup failure

Is that the right URL or does my initial statement stand? =|

Infact, from the whois of rackspace.com.hk

    Name Servers Information:

    NS1.CYBERSTREET.COM.HK
    NS2.CYBERSTREET.COM.HK

    [spike:bk] ~/personal> nslookup NS1.CYBERSTREET.COM.HK
    ** server can't find NS1.CYBERSTREET.COM.HK: NXDOMAIN

    [spike:bk] ~/personal> nslookup NS2.CYBERSTREET.COM.HK
    ** server can't find NS2.CYBERSTREET.COM.HK: NXDOMAIN

    Further drilling reveals the problem:
    [spike:bk] ~/personal> whois cyberstreet.com.hk
    Domain Not Found

    =[

I would presume that they are the rackspace.com entity here in Hong Kong?
