Anyone notice pccw killing torrent connection attempts?
I get a screen saying:
"The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again."
Whenever I click on a torrent link.

Torrenting is an erratic art form and the network connection being disconnected could be anywhere. Not just in HK.
PCCW works fine for me Mininova, EZTV, UKNova ( very very fast ) et al.
Yes its erratic, one minute 8M next 1K, but that is the nature of the beast. If using BitTorrent then highlight your torrent and select peers from the bottom screen. You will see all the connections jumping round. Its not an exact art.
just anoter reason to switch to newsgroups so that you have a full bandwidth access and stability. and access to older files or less popular files too. :P
You guys need to hope that the French haven't started a trend...

PDLM - As far as I know the law is on the side that publically broadcasted TV is shareable. These torrents are essentially public shows with the ads stripped out .. which you know all about.
Really? So if someone records a movie as it is shown on free to air TV and distributes it then that's OK, but if they copy it from a DVD then it isn't?
Movies are differnt from TV shows, as they've not been made specifically to air on free TV. There are a few court rulings about this. In the UK, as long as the TV show is not released on DVD it seems to be ok to share as it does not affect revenues of the producers.
I'll dig some of the ruling up over the weekend.

I took a look at the legislation in Hong Kong and, if my reading is correct, there is an exemption if downloading for personal use only and therefore not an offence. However, distribution (ie uploading) of pirated material is.
I am no lawyer so don't take this as gospel.
