I see PDLMs comment from Stoobs post. He can't help himself from being some sick twisted pedant. The reason why I have him on ignore and prefer to hear from more sensible mature individuals. I can repeat what I said to him before he went on my list. This is not a pissing contest, its a help forum. He should remember that for more than 15 minutes.

In fairness, he did offer his assistance.

If this were in the playground I would have to say that "you started it!"

"ipconfig /all", no space after the /
use ipconfig /renew to try and refresh the DHCP, but given that you have 169.254 it's a fair bet that you are not connected to the router.
Can't offer any advice on PCCW.
All I can say is to check the key that use use for authentication.
Either that or join me for a beer in Wan Chai.

Love the idea of a beer Dave but trying to get this little bugger set up for her who must be obeyed. After all done certainly.

Yes - I am using that syntax but it just doesn't stick on the screen for some reason, on the netbook or on the desktop. I am doing it from " RUN ". Any other way?

If it's a PCCW supplied router then as I understand it by default the WEP or WPA security is turned on and the WEP or WPA key is on a label on the router (and you, or someone, must have configured your other machine that you say is accessing the router wirelessly with that key).

    from 'Run' type cmd
this will give you a olde stylee DOS window
type the ipconfig commands in the dos box.
when you do it fro 'run' it only leaves the window on screen until the command is completed, then it disappears.
