Help! Odd behaviour by my browser

I have been trying to search for ways of mounting my idisk in windows 7, and while in the windows 7 (new) pc, I searched for this using google in firefox. The normal list of google results came up, but when I click on ANY of the results, my browser seems to get hijacked and diverted to this other site (which my security software says is dodgy, and LOOKs very dodgy, and does not have anything to do with my search).

Any ideas? I've cleared my cache and cookies and I'm currently scanning for viruses (I guess it's something like this?) but what else can/should I be doing? God I HATE WINDOWS. Does this mean I should not use the pc for anything important? Does it sound serious?

If you can make it to Geoexpat it's not that bad. Try installing Ad Aware. Friend of mine's browser has been totally hijacked and he can't go to ANY sites on his computer without ending up at a select few search sites.

    Try to install this (http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/)

Having said that, you might not be able to download it on your comp, given that is is already infected.

Best bet is to reinstall windows in most cases if you're not willing to spend hours hunting down the trojans / malware that got installed.

Thanks Shri. I've downloaded it (and the adaware also recommended) - just waiting for the virus scan to finish before loading up. The browser seems ok this morning, so perhaps it was just a mild problem and deleting all the history and cookies did the trick... but I'm not going to wait to find out I am wrong!
