    HGC 0088 IDD calling problems

i used to use the HGC 3HK's 1966 IDD calling, and now switched to use HGC's 0088 IDD plan. In both cases my phone constantly has connection problems.

if i call +country code and #...it works fine, instantly connecting.
but if i use 0088 and country code and # it takes like 5 or 6 tries before connecting.

    anyone else have this problem?

What do you expect when the incremental revenue that Hutchison gets for the call is a big round zero? Of course they're going to give preference to the person paying $$/min for the call. To expect otherwise is naive in the extreme.

I would have thought in most places selling a service that does not exist would be illegal - hardly naive to expect something one has subscribed to to work ....except on hk

It works - it just takes 5 or 6 attempts. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me for something that is free.

One of the major problems of the "internet age" is that people expect things for free which cost money to provide. That isn't a sustainable model for any business.

About 5 years ago I was in a TV ad for 0088. Funnily enough, I never got paid.

    Who said it was free?
I'm a smv customer who signed up and pays for this service every month. It's not my fault if they undercharge for it.... I expect it to work as advertised. Taking 5 or 6 attempts to connect for every call is not what was portrayed in any sales or marketing.

So.... If I can't fix them.... Is there a better service that doesn't have this problem? I'd be willing to pay s little more, but I'm not paying the prices of direct dialing...

They pretty much all have same issues. There are limited connections and if you hit a particularly busy period in the day it can take a while. You're competing not just against individuals but companies who use these plans as well.

I've probably used 10 or so of these providers over the years and all been the same. I always have more than one provider to mitigate this - between me and the wife we use 1968, 1529, 0060 and 0030.

We use 0088 from home and for the price it works fine. Only, maybe 10% of the time we have connection problems and just have to redial once.

whats weird is i found that it actually does connect on the other end, and they can hear me fine...i just dont get the connection on my end so i cant hear them and i dont hear a ring tone or anything.

its just annoying that no matter what time of day i call, i get the same silence and retry a few times. i have NEVER got it on 1st try.
