    some 3 months others 6 months the last time I checked.

    Then sim will be invalid already? I mean you can not add credits to it anymore after that?

    Yes, the SIM will become invalid and you will lose any credit already on it if you don't use it for 3 or 6 months (it varies depending on which operator's SIM).

    There are public phones all over the place still, most people just don't notice them anymore.

    (I use wifi provided by these phones, so I tend to notice them more).

    Yeah in that case it would be hard to maintain a sim if you just go to HK yearly.

    I noticed that...having a wifi sign at the phone booth. So how do you use the wifi inside the phone booth?

    Oy vey. The phone booths are actually wifi hot spots for PCCW wifi service thruout HK. You don't use the wifi signal inside the phone booth...but you could if you want.
