    Facetime registration problem

So I bought an ipod touch for my mum as a diwali gift in october, so that we could facetime, but every time we tried to sign her in with her apple id, it gave an error message - Facetime Activation: Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.
Needless to say, my wifi is working fine, and I did try many times for couple of days and still got the same result.
Few days ago, whilst in Thailand, I ended up buying ipad2, yesterday when I got home, I started setting it up and again faced the same problem while setting up Facetime.
I googled for it, and saw on an apple discussion thread people discussing same issue, and someone gave which seem to be working for the others..

But, when I try to search Keychain Access in the spotlight, it can't find it.
    Can any one please help??
Thanks in advance to Android fans who'll either snigger or tell me to switch to tablet, but, that's not the answer I am looking for.
