Are there any no contract mobile/cell phone voice plans?

I don't want to sign up for a 12 or 24 months contract, where I'm locked in for a period of months, but rather want to buy a sim card that gives me several hundred free talking minutes. I don't need data either. Is there such a thing in HK, as when I look through mobile phone providers' websites, they all seem to require people to sign for a contract. I have my own mobile phone, so won't require a new one. TIA.

Just get a prepaid "Paygo" card from smartone. They have this prepaid plan that costs like $12 a month and then the rest is deducted as you sue it. It works internationally as well, and you can top up online. I have used this service for nine years now.

Just pop into any 7eleven convenient shop and purchase a pay-as-you-go sim card package from PCCW, Vodafone, China mobile and several more provider. The package costs about $100 and has inclusive minutes..... top up when needed at 7Eleven shops too The inclusive minutes expire after 6 months and will roll over if topped up. Ask the shopkeeper if any phone company is having a promotion on that has more inclusive minutes, and cheaper calls.

All the providers have a sim only month by month plan that can be cancelled at any time. You will need to go into the stores to ask.

    Thanks everyone for your replies!
Thanks jaykay. That's what I was looking for. I wouldn't like going with a pay-as-you-go sim card as I would have to top up the credit, if I run out. Would prefer to go with a no-commitment month-to-month plan. I will go into the individual stores, once I'm in HK.

What exactly do you mean by "no commitment"? Either you pay up front and top up as necessary, or you pay at the end of each month for what you have used (but that's going to need you to have some sort of contract, if not any minimum commitment).

Why don't you want a contract? since you'll be here for 2 years as indicated in another post of yours.

You can get SIM-only subscriptions that have no-contract - meaning no xx month term to run. typically they only sign you up for X months if:
    1. you have bought a discounted phone and they need to get the money back
    2. its PCCW who always seem to want to lock you into a longer term contract - their marketing needs to read some other marketing books or something.

A few months ago Smartone introduced a NO CONTRACT unlimited data plan for $68 + $12 MTR fee. The only drawback is the speed is restricted so you can't stream video too easily, but otherwise works fine for email, messaging, etc. I did a post about this with the details.

Most Hk 12-24 month sim only contracts can be cancelled by paying an early termination fee of $500.00. Read the contract. Never trust sales people.
