    Data roaming for tourists

Just saw an offer on my FB feed and it looks quite decent for tourists:
    http://www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/...T.mc_id=102237

Offered by PCCW, below $100 for 5 or 8 days, includes data, WiFi, free local calls and reasonably priced SMS.

Looks like a good deal, you think it will allow tethering?

Fantastic deal. From reading the details,it seems its a limited duration sim card which doesn't allow for top ups unlike traditional prepaid plans. Or do I misunderstand?

I had a very good experience in Singapore with SingTel. $15SGD prepaid gave me 1GB data.

giffgaff in UK is also very good.

The worst is USA and Canada for prepaid data SIMs

    PCCW review

My wife & I bought the HK$69 PCCW for 5 days and were very happy with the service.

It came with 1.5GB and we tethered using my newly Mongkok bought Samsung S4mini to her S4

It was a 3.5G connection only but was enough.

I noticed that if you fly to HK on Cathay Pacific, you can buy the 8 day card for HK$10 off or HK$89 onboard using their Duty Free shop!

One caveat is that the countdown clock starts when you first register the SIM so try to do it a few minutes after midnight which becomes your day1 . The service stops at 11.59pm on the day of expiry.

No top ups, and expires after 5 or 8 days. Have relative here for 15 days, which means we have to change numbers midway through. But pretty handy and good value nonetheless, including HKD35 thrown in for 0060 overseas calls and sms.
