    New World sim cards

Has anyone tried using a New World phone sim card in an ipad? Just seeing if anyone has any experience with this and if there's and restrictions.

Are you talking about the $60 unlimited data, capped at 384kbps speed plans? These work fine on an iPad. The plan also gives you 1700 voice minutes but obviously you have to forfeit these since iPad can't make voice calls, but still it's am awesome plan for the price.

I think so, my missus pays something like $72-78 per month. Thanks, will give it whirl and opt for a cellular ipad mini.

It's $60 + $12 tunnel fee so $72 in total. I use mine in my phone only, but I'm very happy with it.

But then I only pull about 200-300MB / month over the mobile network, so I'm not a major user by some people's standards these days. (I have to say I can't really conceive what people are doing to pull 10s of GBs of data every month onto a phone.)

Yes its the same $72 total plan that I have. I've got 2 of them, one for my phone and one for ipad. Im quite happy it can handle youtube, skype video calls, and Ive got a slingbox overseas with ipad app in HK and watching it at 384kbps speed is surprisingly good quality. The other consideration for me is that I have wifi at both home and office, so really a cheap 384kbps connection is fine for the small amount of time I'm not in one of those two locations.

Thanks bdw, much appreciated. The ipad mini is for my GF, her main sim is a 4G one which she uses in her Note2, but have the New World one as a spare. Normally I'd get her to do tethering, but it's not like she's the easiest person in the world to teach tech know how to...

This must be the least expensive of the 384kbs 3g tariffs on the market now. My wife needs a new plan in a couple of months time. Her priorities are voice reception quality (in Discovery Bay), VOIP for calling her family overseas, and possibly some Skype video calling. Skype would be a real plus for me to keep in touch with my wife when I'm traveling.

Voice quality and coverage is excellent (NWM runs on the CSL network). VOIP has worked fine for me on the few occasions I tried it. I haven't tried video.

Thanks for your response and sharing your experience. CSL - Excellent network indeed.

We've used Skype from home where our WiFi is normally running at 35-40Mbps which, if i understand correctly is 35,000+ kbps, but I don't know what the minimum data speed is useful for such application.

Sorry - ignore my brain fart about video over wifi.
