    Budget Smart Phone

Much like Khema (http://hongkong.geoexpat.com/forum/1...ead253306.html ) I am now looking for my first budget smart phone. That thread was very helpful.

I wanted to see if there would be any updated recommendations.

I have been using an iPod Touch but would be looking to change to Android OS.

    Apps: Whatsapp, Pleco, Kindle

Longer battery life would be nice.

Size: does not have to be extremely small or large.

I would appreciate recommendations for a range of sizes, if possible.

This board has been extremely helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

I would caution against buying any sub 2k phone. A particular annoyance we've found is internal memory being way too small....

The Samsung range of smartphones is huge. I think their cheapest one is sub 2k. They are all pretty similar - the more expensive ones are flashier and faster. Any good phone shop will have the whole range. If you go to a small shop (not somewhere like Fortress) you can get them much cheaper because they are a parallel import. Less useful warranty if that matters to you, but lower cost.

Worth a look at Alcatel one touch, in Fortress now. 4.7 inch screen, extremely thin, 16 GB version available at under hk$2200.

That's what I'm saying is wrong MIn07. We have done it a couple of times and you suffer...very laggy because of the crap processors and low internal memory means you must root them. The other problem is many apps. won't recognise your phone...Trust me, you need to go for one of the more widely known handsets....now saying pay $4k+...just not the real low end ones...

    @ Gruntfuttock

I was thinking under $2000…I saw a number of phones available on Expansys.

I am not a power user. I have been using a 2011 iPod Touch 32 GB and still have 20 GB free.

Ok, so at the smaller end I've been very happy with my Samsung S3 mini, which is just under $2000 from Expansys.
