very happy with my Nexus 7 (2013) so far...
Will seriously consider a Nexus 5
unless you are going to buy it from US ( cheapest source) and less extent UK, google play store are subsiding these phones, thus, it's a bargain, US$399 for 32gb, high spec with minimal compromise, but based on official HK ( unsubsided) prices with nexus 7 and nexus 4 experience, it's not much of a bargain, based on these indications, it will be close to g2 price, ie, closer to HK$4000ish (US$510)
And even it'll still be worth it, if the rumoured specs are true (the specs with 3000 mAh battery and 32gb memory)
Battery will be 2300 for both models according to the same rumoured specs.
The white version is looking awfully sexy. What's the deal with LTE? Is there a possibility it won't work with HK's LTE bands or is it all the same? I'm ignorant of these things.
There will probably be two releases, one for North America, which may not work with HK LTE bands and one for the rest of the world, which should work on HK LTE bands.
The leaked service manual listed two models:
D820: LTE bands 2/4/5/17/25/26/41
D821: LTE bands 1/3/5/7/8/20
D821 will work in HK. However, LTE roaming to NA (and probably Japan / South Korea) won't be possible.
Seems the leaked service manual has already been pulled.

Pin, my parents are currently in the USA. You recommend I don't ask them to get the Nexus from there, but wait for the HK release/get it from the UK?
Latest rumour suggests announcement 8am PDT on 31/10 and possibility of ordering after announcement.
Leaks from Taiwan's FCC (NCC) shows it's getting ready there as well and shows a 2300mAh battery as well which corresponds with previous information.
Will have to see some reviews about how power efficient 4.4, doubt it'll do much good with a screen that size.
But what about the LTE issue? There is a good chance the NA models LTE frequencies won't work in HK. Or that's not an issue for you?Original Post Deleted
