You have gone against the groupmind of Geoexpat. We shall hunt you down and crush you for not getting a Moto G!

thank you all for the suggestions.

he is definitely not dubious and I know where to find him if I need to chase him down

how much you paid, s2 is most likely in the region of HK$1000 for decent condition? even a new one ( latest ver i9105 sii plus) only cost HK$1900 as well as it's based on 2011 flagship (but with a budget Broadcom chipset)

But it's his daughter's phone so he doesn't really have to care that much

He obviously has good taste in phones for himself.

$1000 with a 32G card, lightly used from a personal friend.
It should be good enough for the teenager...

Ah, ok, if its for the teenager, and for the price, then fair game.

If my current phone ever breaks down, I've got the Moto G marked as my next phone whilst I wait for the 'next big thing', at 1890 even if it breaks after 6 months, I wouldn't be too miffed.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using GeoClicks mobile app

Didn't your kid told you clearly that not having the latest smartphone is a form of child abuse?

I'm very proud of this : My kids dont care much (not 100% but pretty good) about brands, latest fashions, fads and gimmicks.
I started early teaching them that a name doesnt make it good, dont get enslaved to fashion etc etc.

I'm very happy how they are progressing into their teenage years and they do not demand the latest phone. With this purchase, I'm going to be replacing her "bee" brand cell phone, one of the cheapest you can get in the market.
