Prepaid SIM cards for the US

We are headed to the US today for a holiday. Ideally we would like to stay connected via the phone through the trip. Checking if we can get prepaid SIM cards in the US with voice and data and how much these cost.

    Appreciate the help.

hi - i got a PAYG sim card when i was there for my unlocked iPhone 5. Which network depends really on where you go as different networks work worse/better in different areas.

I used T-Mobile when i was in NYC last year - cost me USD50 or so for the sim and also for a data package. Reception was decent.

Used T-MObile when i was in Orange County last year also - reception was poor and the pacakge was hella $$$.

When i went to the OC again this year, i got this package from Wal-Mart. it was still quite $$$$ but was on the AT&T network. reception was really good. i seem to remember this cost me US70 though that was for a data-intensive package.

    link to wal-mart website below.

I use ReadySim http://www.readysim.com/. For $25 you can get unlimited calls in the US, unlimited texting, and 500MB of data for 7 days. I've had them ship the sim card to HKG before. If you are using an iOS device make sure you understand how to reconfigure your APN (could be just me but I had to google for a work around). For android phones I've heard its easier to modify the APN.

This is what I used a few months ago when I was there. Was in Socal, LV and Denver. Decent coverage.

The one I have now is on the t-mobile network. it's simplyphone or something like that. $50 gets you a month of unlimited talk text and data, though after some ungodly amount of data it does start slowing down (intentionally). reception is fine - on par w/what i used to get w/ATT.

Thank you all for your advice. I got a Straight Talk SIM from Wal-mart and it worked perfectly.
