Does anyone have a problem with the GPS accuracy on your phones?

Geo, I have a problem and maybe you guys have it too.

My US bought iPhone 5 from Verizon with a Smartone SIM had some of the most impressive GPS performance ever. It was so good, it knew exactly where I was even in a densely packed Mongkok as a pedestrian. It locked on within seconds and help me guide a friend in his car from Shatin all the way to Yuen Long accurately.

However, every consequent phone I've bought in Hong Kong - Nexus 5 and Nokia Lumia 925, had terribly inaccurate GPS'. It didn't matter if I was outside, or had the phone flat - they just refused to lock on to my position! I tested my friends phones - iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, Galaxy Note 2, all of which were bought in Hong Kong, and they all had the same problem as well.

I'm beginning to think that phones bought in Hong Kong simply come with wonky GPS units, but then again there are hundreds of thousands of smartphones in Hong Kong alone and it doesn't seem plausible that all of them are inaccurate.

If anyone does receive a consistently good GPS signal or uses their GPS frequently, would you kindly state where you bought your phone, the model and what network? I just don't understand how my iPhone was able to work so well when my current phone is garbage.

Just a silly theory of mine...your input is appreciated, Geo.

Using iPhone 5 and bought in HK on smartone network and now 3.
    Totally accurate

Assuming you're using google maps app and not the maps network on the phone

My phones have been fine, just set them so they use both satellite GPS (which is pretty useless in most of HK) and wifi location. I *think* that location via cell station is automatic and not a switchable option.

Hmm...what network are you on? It could just be Smartone...

Using One2free on a HK bought Galaxy Note III have no problems with gps location, my Galaxy tab however can't even decide what country you're in.

In Central I've had "jumps" where it moves me a couple blocks one way or the other and then back again. It gets pretty freaky when using something like RunKeeper as my "distance" is never quite accurate given these zig zags.

Always just blamed the buildings or bad coding. I still occasionally end up in Peru when at the lower level of the Admiralty MTR. Actually checked in on Facebook at some hotel in Lima because some setting down there was off.

Use iPhone 6 on 3 and a Galaxy 4 on PCCW and both fine. No issues with previous phones either.

Odd, I tried a friend's iPhone 5 the other day, also on smartone, and even with apple maps it was very accurate. It couldn't catch up at times but it correct itself right away. I almost offered her cash on the spot because I miss having an accurate gps...
