My z3 took a swim on holiday. Yes, its supposed to be waterproof, but that didn't work (and there are thousands of posts covering the actual issue that the phone and the xperia line isn't really waterproof). It was my fault.

Anyway now in search for a new phone....

Specs have slightly changed, requirements (in order of priority):

    - Rootability [without loosing warranty, i.e. I can unroot, not trip anything like Samsung Knox or lose drm].
    - At least snapdragon 801 or equivalent
    - Screen size up to 5.2 inches
    - minimum, 32GB storage
    - minimum, 3GB ram
    - Nearish stock or ability to easily install custom rom (and ability to relock bootloader)
    - NFC
    - Dual sim

I pretty much think wireless charging is now dead in the water (which is a real shame).

I am hunting around, but suggestions welcome.

Did you use magnetic port charger or daily use of USB for charging?

Both actually. Mostly magnetic, but sometimes USB. Regardless, its water damaged. I will take into to Sony to see what they say, but am not holding out much hope.

Yep, apart from its not rootable. Also when rootable there is a good chance you will have to unlock bootloader which means losing DRM and therefore warranty. Z3 is rootable without unlocking bootloader. Sony have stopped selling Z3 though.

Sony have quoted HKD2.8k to fix the phone.

@pin just saw the one plus 2 specs as I have an invite. Seems like a good match. For the dual sim and some other requirements. Any thoughts?

No NFC!! Also, I'm not a big fan of the size. I am hoping to get a phone 5 inches (but it seems 5.2 is the going now). There are rumours of a one plus mini coming out towards the end of the year.

The Zuk z1 looks good as well (but again 5.5 inches). But again no NFC.

It seems the Chinese manufacturers are not fans of NFC.
