    I'm completely aware of the two points the article spends far too many words trying to make.

    It's no secret that messages are not encrypted by default, and it's no secret that Telegram uses DIY encryption. IMO, for me as a user, both are utterly irrelevant. My main goal is that at least part of my daily comms isn't hoovered up by Facebook or Google, and that's pretty much it.

    Sadly this is exactly the problem. Friend of mine moved to it... I couldnt install it on my old blackberry so then we lost touch! Daft really. She won't Facebook or email or anything sensible.
