    Question Smartone prepaid -> SUN

    Hi everyone,

    I have registered with SUN and they will transfer my number on Monday. The guy in the shop was asking if I had any value left on my current prepaid Smartone card. I couldn't understand what was so important about it - his English was so-so, my Chinese is exactly 0

    I actually have only a few dollars left. However, my prepaid SIM plan with Smartone is designed to give me 300Mb every month for $38. At the moment I don't have that much money left in the account. And the date they are supposed to take the money is *before* the transfer to SUN.

    Do you think this fact can somehow interfere with my number transfer? Obviously, I won't get my 300Mb, but will they also go on and freeze my account?

    My guess is that it needs to be active.

    Do you mean that my current SIM must not be expired? If so, I think I'm covered - it's valid for another 6 months or so. Or do you mean something else?

    Not expired is what I mean. If you don't use it and lose the number you can't claim it back. I'm sure there is a redemption period.

    As MandM said the sim needs to be active. I guess you could cancel the subscription for 300mb anytime but there is also a mandatory tunnel fee (3.5 per month?). As long as that amount is in your account i guess your sim stays active.

    I don't know if I can cancel my subscription, but it's a good idea - I can ask them. Yes, they charge something like $3.2 per month and I have money for them to cover that.

    Eventually I did nothing. Smartone cancelled my 300Mb package because I had insufficient funds. And then the transfer happened without any problems, as far as I can tell.

    Did you get the $88 + $18 = $106 unlimited package capped at 384kbps with Sun mobile? Im curious to know what your speed test results are. I have this and I consistently get 800-900kbps download for the last few years (about double what I am paying for) and I'm wondering if its just me or if Sun are this generous with everybody?

    No, they convinced me to get the 5G 4G + unlimited at (some lower speed) afterwards for $126 altogether, 1 year. Seems to be fine so far.
